The Birman is a cat breed with blue eyes that's hard to resist. Their glossy blue eyes gives them a sweet appearance which will have you bending over backwards for them. Their common characteristics are gentle, affectionate and playful, making them ideal as family pets.

From what I understand, Birman cats are actually supposed to have blue eyes according to the breed standard. That deep blue color is one of the key features that identifies the breed, along with the color-point pattern and the white “gloves” on their paws. If a cat doesn’t have blue eyes, most breeders would say it’s either not a pure Birman or it doesn’t meet the show standard.

That said, the shade of blue can vary quite a bit. Some have a very intense sapphire color, while others have a softer, lighter blue. Lighting and age can also make them look slightly different. But generally speaking, if you see a true Birman, you should expect blue eyes. It’s part of what gives them that gentle and expressive look people love.
