My 5 year old an 2 year old cats hate my new baby kitty. Well, they run away from him when they hear or see him and they don't like to come into my room anymore. One of them actually turned around and ran out the front door when I was letting him in because he heard the baby crying. How do I get them to be interested in the kitty? The kitty likes the older cats and even runs towards them and wants to be friends.

I had that problem several times. Some of the time it might be territorial. I didn't believe that was the problem, but as I kept observing them it turned out to be, at least with the one cat of mine. There was another time when my older cats refused to associate with the other cats, i i thought of a plan, and it worked. I took a few boxes, and placed them in the living room where they played alot, and put some of their toys in it. I also cut a hole on the top of it, so they could swat at each other through it. In time they learned love the play boxes. I also at first talked to them, and told them if they didn;t stop they'd be put on the front porch. I always said it calm, but followed through when they was determined not to cooperate with the other cat. This too helped in a very short time. Hope this helped!

What I did was to feed them with different feed bowls placed within sight of each other but out of territorial distance. Then each day I move the bowls closer. In the end they will be eating next to each other. Once they can eat together they can play together.

That is actually a good idea. I think I'll use this when I get a new friend for Snowy. However, I think it's best for me to buy new toys specifically for the new cat and then slowly combine the toys together. I think lots of patience is needed in this case! Thanks, Jenny!

If you buy new toys, get some for the older cats, too. Otherwise they may get jealous and hate the new cat even more.

Lol - of course! I know Snowy... her stare is enough to tell me that she will not forgive me, if I forgot all about her.

My resident cat Gemma is coming around to liking Rosco the new kitten. My problem is that Gemma has a hate streak against me at the moment. She'll sleep with me but anything other than that is growl, nips, and swats. Pick her up, forget it!

Sometimes I think that my cats just tolerate each other. I have had both of them together for two years now and they still get in fights every now and then. The young cats like to be a pest and tease the older one every chance he gets. Harley is grumpy some days and he will just growl everytime Merle looks at him. Other days they do get along pretty good though. I think they would be lost without each other.

Gemma has gotten to the point where she'll let Rosco lick her. Boy did he give her a ear cleaning not to long ago. He'll try to lick her here and there and then takes it a step further and starts using his teeth. Who knows how hard he bites but Gemma starts getting upset about it. They cuddle up within inches of each other when we lay in bed watching movies. Then Rosco gets a little restless and starts playing, wrestling, jumping, and racing around with Gemma. So much for the movie, they're much more entertaining to watch.

Yeah, pretty much like some people xD I had that problem in the past when I had two cats, when Bob arrived I actually had a much older cat. He didn't like Bob because he was so energetic, but I understand it. It's like trying to make a toddler and a teen to get along. They are in different stages, so that might be very hard for both of them.
