I believe its harder dealing with the loss of a pet than people, sometimes... When you lose a friend, its SO hard, but you have people you can talk to about it. other people are going to share their stories and listen to yours. But when you lose a pet, so many people have no idea how painful it can be. So they say, "oh, sorry! wanna go get lunc." You would think no one else ever lost a pet before. Not to mention, my animals can't speak, but they are still our best friends.Partially, because they don't speak.

I always tell the story of one of girlfriends that laughed when she found out I was crying bitterly about the lost of my cat. She laughed!!!! I don't know if she had seen my swollen eyes when I was barely able to see if it would have made any difference. A few other friends told me what words to tell her but I didn't as I understood she was ignorant to knowing the love of a pet.

I don't trust anyone who doesn't love and respect animals. I think someone's views on pets will tell you a lot about a person. Not only that, but I have a lot of pets that I like a lot more than anyone I could possibly run into.

    Agree with you!
Not everyone likes, but respect is a must.

There might be some truth to that but I find I am so tolerant. I feel it's because I never knew the love until I had my own. I swore I would never own a cat and stayed as far away from them as possible, but it took my son to bring me one and everything changed. Some people are just plain ignorant and socialised differently. I feel I was one of them especially when it comes to being ignorant.

Its different if you just aren't a cat person, or you had a bad expierence. I am talking about people who can soak a cat in paint thinner, or can pit fight dogs, or even just abuse them for the hell of it.

Exactly!. you may not want them sitting in your lap, but you don't throw them through a window. You know what I mean?

You get a big amen from there. Even when I was not a LOVER ( I think I had a kind of fear of them maybe from the movies) I would never have been unkind. The same thing with dogs: I could never understand how people could be cruel or poison them. I just knew I had been bitten and it scared me for many years.

I live in a culture where some can be very insensitive but I think word has gotten around that you better not mess with me and my girls.

People around here have been known to feed neighbors' cats and dogs poison. Usually if its an ongoing fight between the neighbors. I have had cats that won't eat people food unless they see you eat it first. But how do you teach them that?
