How long do Anaesthetics take to wear off on a cat?

    I took my cat to the vets this morning and he had to have an x-ray and because he was being sick a lot, the vet didn't give him an anaesthetic he gave him something beginning with e (I can't remember what it is) that would knock him out but if he tried to be sick he'd be able to whilst he was knocked out.
    I was told to keep him inside until that wore off. He got it at about 12, will it have worn off by now? Mum said I can take him outside if I go with him but he might run off.
