Have you ever used shredded paper for litter? I tried it a few weeks ago and it was a huge mess. It stuck to the cats feet and was tracked all over my home. Not something that I plan on using again.

oh that definitely sounds like a "do not try" this! besides sticking to the cats feet and being trailed around the house, I doubt newspaper would work well as an Oder absorber. with five cats and three litter boxes and my obbsession with not wanting to smell their buisness, I would love an inexpensive alternative that also works well. I change the litter boxes daily and it is a bigger expense than cat food.

I once had two cats from the same litter and they were potty trained on newspapers. When we got them they would pee on any newspaper lying around the house. Because of this experience, it's a definite no-no for me. Also, like Micheleteresa says, the odds of the paper sticking to their paws and such are high. I wouldn't recommend it.

I use recycled paper pellets, but they don't seem to work very well. The best litter I found were cedar pellets. They would last for a month or more, even with three cats, without smelling at all. The brand I was using sucked all of the moisture up out of the waste and dried it out within half an hour of the cat using the box. I only had to scoop it about once a week.

I have used shredded paper in a n emergency when I've run out of litter. but it's not ideal especially as it is not very absorbent.

I had to use dirt from the garden once in an emergency, when we were snowed in and the cats needed new litter. They liked it but they kept tracking it all over the house.

No, my brother tried it once with his cat and it did not work out to good. The cat started to potty in the house instead of the litter box.

I don't use shredded paper. When I toilet train my cats, sometimes I would use a folded piece of newspaper put on the floor. This can sometimes backfire. The cats get the idea that any piece of folded newspaper makes a good toilet.

I was adviced by our vet to use shredded paper when we had our cats declawed for 14 days. It was such a mess to clean up several times everyday , I only done it for about 7 days at the most. They seemed to do fine after those many days. This method seems to work fine for a few cat owners, but over all I've heard negative feedback.

No, I never tried shredded paper because I didn't think it would be a great idea. Aside from toilet-training, I use litter sand. With my sweetheart's mum working with the animal shelter, we get to buy it cheap-cheap.

Oh ew! That is so gross and no, I definitely won't be trying it out myself. I hate just using cheap kitty litter that they track all over the place, so I wouldn't want to try out an option that's even worse.

No, i don't think I would do it. In a pinch, perhaps, but I have never run into a situation where we ran out of litter. We always keep an extra bag when the current one is beginning to get low.
