I’m 58 and this is my first cat as an adult. I’ve cared for many dozens of cats over the years as a professional pet sitter, but this is the first one that is all mine. Charlotte is a 3 yr old (as of July 16, 2025) blue lynx point ragdoll and she is sweet and adorable, slowly coming out of her shell. She was being raised on Purina One Indoor hard kibble and I am immediately switching her out to Crave. She was never given wet foods, but I’ve been mincing up a piece of thawed cooked jumbo shrimp and crumbling up some freeze dried raw chicken breasts to sprinkle over her kibble and make a little pile next to her shrimp. She also eats the little Fancy Feast shredded chicken breast in tuna broth, licking up all of the broth first. I am also giving her a spoonful of wet food daily and I’m trying a variety of canned foods. I want to spoil her and do things right.

She is being kept in a spare bedroom right now and I’ve been sleeping in there with her. I have 2 dogs that are very curious but we’re taking our time and I don’t expect any introductions too soon. Today makes 3 days that she has been here and she is no longer hiding much, but she is still wary of my husband and any noises outside the window or door. I acquired a gently used scratching post and she has used it several times already. I have no cat tree for her yet, but I keep looking for a gently used one.

Last night I got her to play with me for 35 minutes and that seemed to make big progress for us, leading her to spend that evening in bed with me for the whole night instead of a short visit and retreat to under the bed.

I’d love to get new kitty advice from you.

Here is a picture of my sweet Princess Charlotte.
