Mine do. If the food is down to the bottom, my oldest cat will act like he's starving, refusing to eat the layer of food at the bottom of his bowl! He will only eat after I refill the bowl. Do your cats do this, too?

Cats can be particular. They want things that are fresh. I find that sometimes adding a little fresh food to some old food in a bowl can help that food to be eaten. Its just that a cat wants some fresh food as well to entice them to eat what has already been placed there. Cats are the same way when it comes to water, they prefer fresh water over water that has set there for a few hours.

I try to give my Bob the right amount of food, but if for some reason he doesn't eat it all... and there is an extra layer of old food on the bottom, then I just remove it. He likes it fresh :) I don't blame him, specially when the weather is warmer... bacteria multiply fast.
