This is an awesome and very cute video about a cat who comforts a crying baby and 'pets' it to sleep :)

Maybe I am too cautious but I wouldn't trust a cat with a baby. Those claws are just too sharp for comfort. Plus the baby might be allergic to cat fur.

My cats were just fine around my baby. One of them even took it upon himself to watch over him, until we got a new (teenaged) kitten to take that duty. And others I've known who had babies and cats have had the same cat-nanny experience.

That is so cute! I hate those horrible rumors about cats smothering babies to death (I guess it can happen), but it usually leads to people dumping their cats or sending them to a pound when they get pregnant.

I've never heard of a cat smothering a baby. IMHO, it's the combination of the cat-nanny thing that I've noticed, and SIDS. It goes like this: the cat's always in the room with the baby, the baby stops breathing and dies, therefore, the cat caused the baby to stop breathing.

Aww, that's a very bad way of jumping to conclusions. In such a case, the cat is likely to be terminated. Talk about being executed for a crime you didn't commit.

This is really cute, but I would be scared. Cats can go from being fun and sweet to wanting to "play" with their claws. A lot of cats are very nurturing though.. if it was my cat, I wouldn't be worried.

Cats look at things rather differently from us. Like this one here:

I guess it depends on several things; you know your cat best and I wouldn't leave my cat alone with a baby.
However, I think it's a good thing to let children in contact with animals from a very young age. Also, people tend to get more allergies if they have little expository to bacteria, fur, etc. I've heard several stories of people who had mild allergies, stayed in contact with the source of their allergy, and eventually it did not affect them anymore.

That was sweet how that kitty got the baby to relax and then finally put them to sleep. It was cute the way the cat was so gentle with soothing the baby. Very cute cat, love the way she, or he looked back at the camera.

What a sweet video, the cat certainly looks like it's instinctively soothing the upset baby. I think animals are really in tune with sensing when someone is upset and needs comforting. I agree with the previous posters, each cat owner knows their cats best and whether or not they are safe around babies.

That cat is beautiful. I love black cats. It looks like the cat was being very gentle with the baby and was under supervision, so I wouldn't be worried in that situation. It's really sweet how the cat was petting the baby until the baby fell asleep.
