    Hello everyone,

An orange cat showed up late last summer to our house, we don't know where from, with the clear intentions to stay around. He was snotting/sneezing a lot, and since we had two other cats at that time, we placed him outside in a very insulated, heated, two-room cat house I built specially for visiting cats.

He was clearly very sick, we took him to the vet immediately. He was diagnosed with an URI, Feline calicivirus (FCV), and gum infection from bad teeth. He was put under antibiotics, got him a nebulizer, got his teeth extracted (almost all, but the front ones), long story short, after several months, his overall health has improved. A lot.

Once his URI was under control, we moved him inside the house as a family member. With cold season in, he started showing signs of another bout of URI, which we kept at bay for a while with the nebulizer, then gave up and took him to our vet (an excellent vet), and started treating him with antibiotics, and more of the nebulizer.

He is doing much better now.

The reason for joining the forum, however, is not his health, though I am sure I can benefit from the experience of other cat owners dealing with URIs.

    The reason is his behavior.

Goldietto (we name him Goldietto after the first cat we ever had, a neighborhood orange cat that ended up with us, his name was “Goldie,” hence, “Goldietto,” from Spanish, "Little Goldie"), is a very communicative cat. While he was outside, we assumed he meowed a lot to call attention. Once inside, however, he continues to meow a lot for no reason in particular. Whether he wants food, attention, or anything else, he meows. If we walk next to him (he’s very skittish, probably traumatized since he was a kitten) he meows (growls?) and moves away. He meows for everything. His skittish behavior has diminished with time, he’s grown to be more trustful, but his meowing is relentless.

I saw a video in YouTube with a headline about a rescued/street cat, I don’t remember well, who was very communicative. I didn’t watch it, as I distrust everything posted in YouTube, but I realized there are other cases of similar cats.

Any similar experience from forum members is welcome. Any suggestions about how to deal with the issue will be very helpful, and if people can point out to the origin of this behavior, it would be appreciated.

    Gratefully,

    Goldietto
