So, yesterday I bought a new laser pointer for my kitty. We were having a blast, dashing around, blah blah blah. Then I noticed a little warning label. Aw how cute, a warning on a laser light. But rather than the usual "don't point a laser at your retina", it said there was a laser pointer radiation hazard and to avoid direct contact with the beam!!!! What the heck?! Does anyone know anything of this? Is this just a really silly precaution, or this a serious problem??? The cat runs in front of the pointer, there WILL BE CONTACT!!!

My cat loves lasers..we buy the cheap ones that barely make a light. Another alternative is a kids flashlight..you can find some with attachments to make the light have a small diameter.

I saw a special laser cat toy the other day that also moves around by itself and sets an interval, etc. My cats love laser pointers as well so I thought of buying it, but it had the retina warning as well and I wasn't to sure I'd want my cats to be able to get close to the toy being on the ground. They also make pointers with regular light; teeny tiny flashlights. I have one of those now.

You should never point a laser at anyone's eye (or any kitty's eye) but other than that I don't think you're in danger of radiation sickness. ;)
