Napa firefighters rescued a cat hiding in a closet of his burning home earlier this week as the Boles wildfire swept through the town of Weed, in Siskiyou County, California.

40 mile an hour winds brought the Boles fire into Weed on Monday with an unstoppable force that led to the complete destruction of 150 homes, as well as the public library and community center, and a church.

Amid the destruction, hiding in a closet of his family’s still burning home, members of a fire crew from Napa found a cat, pulled him out of the ashes and sent him to be reunited with his owner.

“You know he had burnt whiskers on the front a little bit and was scared and was shaking, but seemed to be in pretty good condition. Breathing fine and moving around like crazy,” the firefighter who rescued him said.
