I think Bella might be afraid of thunder because when ever it storms she wanders around the house meowing. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how did you deal with it?

All of my cats are afraid of thunder. They run all over the house to find somewhere to hide(usually under a bed). The only way I can get them out from hiding is shaking their pounce treats. They come running then.

I can't recall ever having cats that were scared of thunder. We've always lived in tornado alley, so for at least 6 months out of the year, the storms are constant. Because of that, they were probably used to thunder and the sounds of heavy wind and rain from right after birth, so maybe they just don't even notice.

Well, where I live we have thunderstorms about three months every year. So maybe my cats are already used to it. Not that they like it. When there is thunder, they would sit still for a while and prick up their ears. That's all.

My cats are more scared of the vaccum sweeper than thunderstorms. It maybe because we don't have too many of them. They may not remember to be scared of it. Try setting them by you during the thunderstorm, and help them feel secure. Then afterwards maybe give them a treat. It may work, but I've never tried it.

You see we live in tornado alley also so, you would think she would be used to it too. Although, last summer when I got her we were in the middle of a drought so it didn't rain much, then winter came and so this is the first spring I have had her. Maybe she just hasn't had a chance to get used to them yet?

My cats don't seem to bothered by the thunder, but they do act up when a big storm is approaching. To be honest they are more scared of the vacuum than of thunder lol

My cats actually don't care about thunderstorms. They just sleep right through it. Although, if they are awake, then they stop and listen for a minute, then continue on their way.

Ah yeah, sounds like it. If she hasn't really had any storms in the last year or none at all really, then I'm guessing she'd still be really nervous around them. If you're in tornado alley, though, then I'm sure she'll either get used to them rather quickly...or maybe never get used to them.

My baby isn't scared of thunder at all (which is funny because I am always scared when there are thunderstorms!) She sits right by the window and stares at the lightening and rain.. it interests her I suppose. I have never heard of another cat being interested in a storm, but she definitely is.

Maybe it's not the storm itself but the rain? My cat loves water, so if there's no thunderstorm but just a little rain, she stays on a balcony.

Are you very, very sure that vacuum cleaners don't eat cats?

My Tabu is sure they do. She used to run away from it but now she tries to attack it! I'm afraid she's going to bite or scrach my hand holding it

You mean like attack the vacuum cleaner in some kind of life and death battle? That would be quite a scene to watch.

She hates water though.. she will run if I turn on the bath or if she gets a little water on her. I think she is just a curious cat. That is so cute that your kitty stays on the balcony when it's raining :)

Yes, all of my cats are scared to death of thunder or any loud sound. They all take off running, they like to hide in a tight spot where no once can find them or see them. It is kind of cute, funny but sad to. I do not like my babies scared.

No, not that I can remember. Then again, we hardly have thunderstorms over here. I think I should pay close attention to them when there is thunder...
